Unique EX MOD HMS Cornwall Safe Chubb Manifoil combination lock Mk IV Wall Safe

  

Although this type of Ex MOD safe is not particularly rare it is almost unheard of to know where an MOD safe has come from. I will supply a copy of the invoice from Swansea Drydocks as well as a signed letter from myself confirming this safes ident number and that it was from HMS Cornwall.

There were only 2 safes of this size/type and the other will definitely be remaining in my personal collection. HMS Cornwall was a Batch 3 Type 22 frigate of the Royal Navy. She was the first Batch 3 to be built, and the last to be decommissioned. Cornwall was based at HMMB Devonport in Devon, England, part of the Devonport Flotilla.

The safe is not only a piece of history but also a very secure practical safe weighing around 6kg with a door made from 6mm plate. Depth without dial = 105mm.

Depth with dial = 145mm. This safe is stamped 1986 and the HMS Cornwall was launched in October 1985 and commissioned in 1988, so it would be fair to assume this safe has spent its entire life aboard.

The lock is a Chubb Manifoil dated 1985 which were the MOD standard for decades and even include a lead shield to protect against X rays. The safe is in good cosmetic condition for its age with only a few scratches and the odd small rust spot.

It is in its original paint and is fully functional. There is a little overpaint on the back corners from the wall it must have been mounted on being painted. I have changed the combination to ensure the lock is fully operational. The safe will be supplied with the new combination in a locked open state. If you would like me to set your own combination that is no problem.
