Very unique and historic floor safe. From the great grandson of Colonel Abner Phelps, comes this amazing piece of California history. Colonel Phelps, a Mexican war veteran lost his wife and children from influenza while living in New Orleans. Despondent and wanting to start a new life Col. Phelps decided to move to California.
The Phelps house is considered the oldest house in San Francisco. The safe is dated 1849 so chances are it traveled with the Colonel around the horn. The lettering has been touched up but it is all original and has been in the Phelps family for over 170 years.
